Having unsuccessfully searched for a flamethrower in the Chania area, I wonder if any of you have seen one?

Assuming you mean a long handled gas burner for burning weeds, I have no idea where to get one in Chania. Possibly Schetakis or Foteinakis. There are two Foteinakis shops within about 50 m of each other. Probably best to try the big yellow one first. If they don't have one then they might know where you can get one.

You can get them online in Greece, for example this one and others at the bottom of the page.

If you mean a weapon for shooting a stream of flaming gasoline, oil, napalm, etc. then you probably need a military supplier?

NOT that this helps but around 8 years ago lidls sold them but none since so I reckon they must have thought that they would be used unsafely and stopped selling them, the yellow ones as described earlier...

Looking at Warwick's link, they are not as expensive as I'd thought they would be. Although once we start buying the gas bottles it will all add up. I'm not keen to use it; quite content to sit on the gravel and pull out the weeds but Andrew doesn't want me working so hard

I hate to see a woman slaving away so whenever I was faced with the problem I used to go to sleep.

PS Foteinakis have a web site, Greek and English, but it doesn't give details of products. It does have a contact form, bottom right, so you could ask them if they have the item you want. Possibly send a link to the example I gave and ask if they have anything similar, not necessarily identical.

Make your own mix consisting of salt, vinegear and dishwasher detergent.

Thanks Mouche. There are so many different ways to kill weeds that I'm surprised there are any left, haha!

Vinegar can be used for most everything including your salad! :D

It's actually ecellent for cleaning purposes together with just one drop of soap and water.

Hi, not sure if you have sorted this or not. I bought a Butane Gas Wand from Z Gas in Rethymnon, don't quote me as it was a while back but I think it was under 10 Euro. Z Gas details below.
PS. Agree with the comment that the weeds just come back, so in use now to light my bonfires!
