Vista SP1

Postby paulh » Wed Mar 19, 2008 10:39 am

Vista SP1 is out now and may be downloaded via automatic updates (not sure it might be manual only).

It took my Vista machine about 1 hour to download on broadband (434Meg) and about 3 hours to install so it takes a while.

After using it for a couple of hours it seems faster and no problems but it is very early days yet.

If you don't need it and do need your machine (I have other machines if this goes wrong) then leave it a while for others to find any potential problems.

Alternatively, try it and if gives you problems uninstall it.

You can use Programs and Features in Control Panel to remove SP1 and restore your computer to its previous state.

To uninstall SP1:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Programs.
3. Under Programs and Features, click View installed updates.
4. On the Uninstall an update page, click Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB936330), and then click Uninstall.
5. Follow the instructions on your screen.

What I might report on and how SP1 reacts will depend on the configuration and components of each individual machine.

A good alternative source with a bigger client base is here ... omplaints/

particularly read the user comments linked from the end of the page

anything I see elsewhere and not mentioned in the above link I will let you know
