I would expect postal staff in Greece to be off on 25 and 26 December and 1 January. Normally they would also be off 6 January but that is a Sunday so they wouldn't be working then anyway. They don't get time in lieu. Equally they won't be working the Saturdays and Sundays leading up to Christmas as happens in the UK

I received a Christmas card from a friend in the UK two days ago. In the card she was apologising for it arriving late because she thought she had posted it after the cut off date. Royal Mail quote 7 December as the last posting date to be sure cards get to Greece. Spheroids. It takes about 1 week to get here. It might take a bit longer to get out of the UK because of higher demand there but once it leaves the UK it will get here just as quickly as normal. There is virtually no change in the level of postal deliveries in Greece over the Christmas period.

We received a card yesterday posted last Wednesday in the UK - this is about the normal time it takes, if not quicker! Conversely, I'm still awaiting a small package from Amazon due to arrive last Thursday! The company fulfilling the order use the post rather than a courier, so I know that isn't the issue. You pays your money, you takes your choice.

Correct, Andrew. As far as I can tell ELTA does not work Saturdays and Sundays at all, not even back room services. I mentioned it because the UK postal service does work Saturdays and Sundays in the period leading up to Christmas so anybody not actually living in Greece might not realise this, especially as shops open on the last Sunday before Christmas.

We received 4 cards today (12th) - the posting dates in UK ranged from 5th to 10th December.

Out of interest, what was the postage value. I got one yesterday with a £1.25 stamp on it.

The cards I received today were all £1.25 but a couple of others which arrived previously were £1.55 - maybe due to size?

I think the last 1st class stamp I bought in the UK was 32p :-)

Anybody old enough to remember “make a ghost of the fourpenny post”? 1968 or 1969, I think, when two tier post began in Britain, open to correction as always!

I remember when a 50p stamp cost 50p years ago! How much would a 50p stamp cost now?A shocking amount I shouldn't wonder!
