Seen it quite a lot by the Madamas river when walking the dog.

Seems to be the seed pod of an Arum. Possibly Dracunculus vulgaris http://www.west-crete.com/flowers/dracu ... lgaris.htm

Certainly an Arum. 'Lords and Ladies' is the vernacular term we used in the UK. Berries extremely poisonous for children and can cause adults a lot of pain and nausea. Pity, they look so inviting.........! Bob.

It's defiantly an Arum, most likely Dracunculus vulgaris.

If you need to check further, this should get it down to 1 in 14...The Arum Species of Greece and Cyprus

Funny enough we have exactly the same plant growing in the hedge of a field at the back of our house here in the U.K .

Small world even for plants.

Many thanks for the replies. Personally I think Dracunculus vulgaris sounds like something from a Hogwarts spell book but .... :D
