Directions, supplied by Helen P-P, on how to get to Esperos:
Take the old road between Vrysses and Georgioupolis. About halfway along you will see a turn to Fones. ( Right if you are coming from Vrysses, left if you are coming from Georgioupolis. Take this turn, go under the bridge and turn immediately right. This will take you into the large car park of Esperos.

For anybody coming on the National Highway from the Chania direction it is probably quicker to go past the junction with the Vrysses - Georgioupoli old road. After about 300 m there is a small parking area with a café called To Steki, I think, on the right hand side. There is a small road off to the right at this parking area that runs parallel to the National Highway. Follow that for about 600 m and Esperos is on the right.

PS If you've been naughty watch out for the Grampus.

There's a map/directions included in the Avrio newsletter being sent out later today detailing what you describe.

For the benefit of those of us travelling against the tide of Westenders and coming from the Rethymno direction, could somebody kindly provide an idiot's guide to getting off the Ethniki and to the venue?

From the National Highway you will take the right turn at the Vrysses junction. In front of you will be an olive press , turn
right and follow the road down. There will be a tunnel/bridge to your right and if you turn there it will lead you to Esperos. I believe there will be signposts up for the event.

After going under the tunnel bridge you immediately turn right again and Esperos is on your left after about 150 m. You actually pass it on your left hand side on the National Highway shortly before you get to the Vrysses junction but it is a low building so you might not notice it. From turning off the National Highway to the turn under the tunnel bridge is about 1.3 km.

On the return journey go past the olive press and follow the road under the National Highway. Turn left at the T junction and that will take you back onto the carriageway going East.

PS Have you got your Visa, Clio, to allow entry to the Chania prefecture?

Read that too late to comply so we just followed our noses in an easterly direction via some interesting back roads, and made it happily home.

Belie3ve it or not, I do occasionally venture outside God’s Own Nomos in search of things found in abundance in Chania but not in Rethymno, like amchur powder, urad dal and dog-eared second-hand novels. Usually take a packed lunch so as not to have to rely on funny foreign food like like kalitsounakia or boureki.

Clio
P.S. Didn’t see you at the do, Warwick. Take it that this year you are making your own hand-crocheted Christmas cards and stained-glass raki decanters?

Sorry the info was too late. I had lots of power cuts yesterday so when I finally got power back I didn't bother booting up the PC again. Only saw the directions this morning. Table top/car boot sales and Christmas Fayres are not my thing, Clio.
