UK Govt Refuses to meet Bristish in Europe

Postby Carolina » Wed Sep 26, 2018 3:50 pm

The government has been accused of forgetting about the million-plus British citizens living on the continent as it emerged that neither Theresa May, David Davis nor Dominic Raab have once met with their representatives since the Brexit process began.

On the EU side chief negotiator Michel Barnier and Brexit coordinator Guy Verhofstadt have given British in Europe – the umbrella group representing British citizens living in the EU – multiple audiences, updating them on the status of negotiations.

But despite repeated requests for meetings in the over two years since the vote the group has yet to secure any time with the senior figures on the British side, with overtures “either refused or ignored”.

The group British in Europe have been complaining for a very long time that nobody senior in UK government is prepared to meet with them while senior people in the EU have met them several times. As it stands at the moment, in the event of a no-deal Brexit UK citizens in the EU will have no legal status. We will be illegal aliens just like refugees from north Africa and the middle east. Perhaps we can apply for asylum on the grounds that our government has disowned us?

I recall once being at Boot Hill in Tombstone, Arizona. One of the graves there had the simple inscription: "Poor old Les. He was right, we were wrong". At least it sounds as if they may have given the bloke a chance. Our lot of arrogant politicians see no further than the ends of their own paychecks! Although, on reflection, perhaps the residents of Tombstone shot first and then asked questions!!! Not a lot changes.
Yesterday today was tomorrow. Don't dilly dally!
