Name of Chania Airport Mountain?

Postby Yin&Yang » Tue Mar 14, 2017 4:15 pm

From the Kalyves' side of Souda Bay, when we look across it towards the airport, we see a mountain. Does it have a name? I am tiring of calling it 'the Airport Mountain' :?

Pretty sure it's "Skloka". Possibly "Skloxa". Perhaps Jean will correct me if I'm wrong. 528 metres.

Can't see any name listed on Google Earth, but in case you are interested, it's 444m high.

According to Anavasi map it's called Skloka and is 525m in height. According to Google Earth it's 444m. According to a Greek military map of Akrotiri it's called Sklopa and is 526m in height.

... Perhaps it lost a bit of height in the last earthquake ... :? ... but probably not 80-odd metres !

Wow, you knowledgable lot you! I couldn't find any mention of it in my searches. So, it has a name and expands and shrinks which may or may not be caused by natural causes.

Seriously though, thank you for giving the 'airport mountain' its name; greatly appreciated.
