Military aircraft

Postby kvsteele » Tue May 16, 2017 7:16 am

There appeared to be lots of military aircraft in the skies yesterday. Any ideas as to why? Muscle flexing? Sabre rattling?
Moved onto Crete finally...It's been a long wait

Yes. Once or twice a year the navy fires guns at target buoys in the bay. Often the turn from the National Road into Kalami is closed by police for the duration of the activity.

Well, there was a case a few years ago when one of the surface-to-air missiles fired in a northerly direction from the base on the Akrotiri went bananas, turned around and started heading in the direction of the white mountains. Thankfully of course, it was destroyed before it even got back to the firing point! Bob.

Doubt it. Not noticed in previous years. Bob.

Probably this - the date fits - 141 violations by Turkish fighter jets in the Aegean on Monday 15 May https://translate.google.com/translate? ... ka%2F56406

I.e. Greek F16's taking off from Chania to intercept/ keep an eye on them.
