POLICE STATION CLOSURES

Postby Charliesangel » Sat Jun 17, 2017 2:43 pm

Sorry if a repeat of this post comes up, I've had trouble posting...
ALIKIANOS AND GALATAS stations have closed, due to lack of funds. I think Chania is now the main station...

That's a shame, what with all the crime going on in those places!

Right in one scooby, our Police Station in Kolimbari closed many years ago, money saving sadly comes first now, not the people and safety.

Do the residents of this area feel that crime is on the increase ,or is it the reporting of crime that is on the increase... I have lived in my village for 10 years ... this year for the first time I saw a police car cruse through ....the guys waved and said hi ...never lock my house never lock my truck ....

I can't provide any objective evidence to support my view but I have a feeling that crime is lower in villages where there is a local police office.

There's been no crime close to us since, about three years ago Giorgios, from the apartment above ours, and a couple of neighbours chased would-be thieves round the streets for about twenty minutes in the wee, small hours. Giorgios emptied his 9mm magazine at least twice: he's never been a great shot and even worse when waddling at speed.
