Aegean Earthquake

Postby Tim » Fri Jul 21, 2017 9:40 am

Hi All

Terrible news and pictures from Kos this morning, with some casualties being flown to hospital in Heraklion. A graphic in the Guardian shows the effects of the earthquake reaching as far as the eastern tip of Crete. Has anyone heard reports of any damage in Lassithi?

Given that it is about 200 km from the epicentre to the nearest point on Crete I would be surprised if it was felt strongly enough in Lassithi to cause damage. Possibly very minor damage to older buildings?

Nothing our end of the island, Tim. Just a faint wobble and not even as strong as the one last week, so your house will still be standing! M.

That's good to know, Mike. Warwick's use of the phrase 'older buildings' describes my house very nicely!

Nothing felt here in the Kolimbari area, but well aware of the deep sea areas prone to earthquakes around our coastal seaboard...
