"I am sure all other forum members are quite capable of understanding the comparison"

Sorry, Warwick, but this particular member is too busy grappling with the iniquities, anomalies and idiocies of the thread's original post - not to mention reflecting on the reasons for an alarmingly bad tourist season in this neck of the woods, and wondering if that's a fire-fighting plane we can hear - to be bothered with yet another bout of Chinese wrestling between you and Mouche, both hellbent on having the last word.

I love you dearly but you don't half go on sometimes!.

This post should read as follows;
As I remember it, on my first solo visit to France I was accompanied daily by a cloud of annoying, biting insects. The locals referred to them as "les mouches".

I will desist, Clio. I agree, Eleni. I was In France this summer and I can assure you that they are still a problem. I tried spraying my computer screen with the repellent I bought there but it doesn't seem to work.

Mouche is an irritating troll. I don't know why anyone bothers to reply to anything he posts.

Mouche is Norwegian I believe? ... From Wikipedia: "A troll is a class of being in Norse mythology and Scandinavian folklore..." :wink:

Mouche is not a troll. He has been a member of this board, posting regularly, for some years.

Being Norwegian does not make him a troll any more than being Irish makes a Dubliner a leprechaun.

I tend not to read his posts because I find the style and content overly cynical and combative, but he is entitled like everyone else here to the mutual respect which is one of the essential elements of a good forum.

Throwing insults, even mild ones, can be the beginning of the end for a virtual community. Please let's not do it.

I have to agree with Clio. He has every right to post whatever he likes on here, obviously within the rules of the board. There is no rule that says people have to agree with each other. Life would be very boring if they did.

Can't speak for Andrew or Eleni, but my post was intended as a joke, Clio -- albeit a rather weak one -- and I'm pretty sure mouche has broad enough shoulders to comprehend that without feeling offended.

You may speak for me Mixos. In any other scenario I might have used :D one of these to make the intention clear. Something about this forum does not encourage it. Do you think we are too serious sometimes?

Thank you, Eleni. My use of this :wink: emoticon was intended to signal that the post was lighthearted and not to be taken seriously. I thought it was pretty obvious. Ti na kanoume? :roll: There's another one for you !

As feedback on the €100 that you can claim back from IKA, discussed earlier in this thread, I got my bankbook updated today and discovered that the money I claimed back in February was paid into my account in mid August. A friend who claimed a few weeks before me also got his about the same time so it looks like the time-scale is about 6 months.

In 2013, we got our 100 euros back in about 6 weeks. Things may have changed, or perhaps things are as random as ever............

I'd vote for random.
