Many thanks everyone. A civil engineer is now putting our application together and expects the approval will come through in 3-4 months. He has to get Forestry approval too. There appear to be two building methods: the traditional stone wall approach or using more modern materials which are cheaper and lighter. We prefer the latter (cost and time!!) and will insulate after the apothiki is signed off by the building inspector. But a material called lamarina was mentioned in the last post: can't find out what this is so an explantion would be appreciated please Alastair.

A generic term for sheet metal? Comes in many forms. Try putting Λαμαρίνα into google.gr This is a Wikipedia article on it. e-metalshop sell it in Greece. I've mostly seen it used for roofing. There are plenty of places around Chania that sell it, e.g. Sidal on Kissamou on the right hand side going into Chania not far before the square with a statue of a woman and child where Mark Botsarin branches off. Some of it is double layer with polyurethane insulation between the layers. I've seen store rooms built with steel studding clad in plasterboard and then rendered.
