The strongest I have felt in many years. And it lasted what felt like an eternity!

I only noticed it because I have a ceiling light fitting consisting of 3 shades hanging at slightly different heights and the shades started gently hitting each other. Also a tall standard light started rocking slightly. I was stood up at the time and felt nothing. This is about 15 km south west of Chania.

I am on the mainland 40 odd kilometres south of Kalamata. The contents of my fridge rattled and my chair shook. It felt as if it went on for a long time but I suppose it was really only about 30 seconds. I was sufficiently concerned to leave the house. Biggest one I have felt here.

This is a fuller article in the same journal. Not really much additional information just lots of comments by different people. Forstos' link is broken and takes you to the front page. This is the short article.

There was an earthquake in the Chania region about 4 years ago with much stronger effects. I can't remember exactly when but much much stronger than this one. I don't know if the magnitude was bigger or simply that it was closer.

The earthquake of 6.4 was about 5 - 6 years ago (I know it was before we’d moved into this house). I don’t recall the depth of the quake but it shook things about a bit!

I think that it was in January 2006...time flies

The one I am thinking about was certainly after 2012 so not the January 2006 one. I was in northern Greece in January 2006 and didn't move to Crete until later that year. I was sat on a couch and it threw me about enough to make me grab onto the arm of the chair.

I did a search back and the one I am thinking of was in October 2013, see this thread. Only a bit bigger than the one today but much bigger effect around me. I think it was closer.
