That kind of depends. Gas emits less CO2 than oil which emits less than coal. Gas is widely recognised as a transition fuel given the intermittency of renewable alternatives and the lack of battery technology to store energy as we move to a decarbonised economy. Thereafter, who knows? Natural gas’ continued use would require effective carbon capture and storage which is another technology not yet fully developed.
