Thats shifting even at 5.30am.
Last year I was due to meet my son at the airport and assumed he was coming to Xania. Before I left home, in plenty of time to make Xania airport, I looked again at the e-mail he'd sent about three weeks earlier. "Oh, sh*t, he's coming to Iraklio." Also, with 2 litres up front it's quick to get back up to speed out of the bends. Good brakes are a minor benefit, too.

It also helped that all speed limits were suspended between 02:00 and 06:30 during the last week in May 2006.

I had something similar

2 hours later I picked them up

Err why? Were they trying to cull the after rave youth or was there an upcoming night rally to practice for? No old bill spare for night duty? Getting the Paramedics overtime? Courts overloaded?

Actually, Muttly, they suspend the limits every time I need to go to Iraklio (rarely) but only when 'Er Indoors stays at home. That poses the question how do they know?

Didn't you fall off when it reached warp speed?

We did Palekastro (east of Siteia) to Chania 2 years ago and it took us well over 5 hours (can't remember the exact time).. We tend to stick with the speed limit on dangerous parts of the road and let rip when it looks fairly safe. In August it took us about 90 minutes to get to Iraklion airport from Almyrida. This was at 11pm and there were a lot of maniac drivers on the road (apart from us!) We exceeded the speed limit a lot of the time and it still took a lot longer than most people tell you it will take!

Just take care.
