...for a new tax hit? Stournaras, the new finance minister has said that the government needs an extra 3.5 billion Euro NOW! See http://www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_ar ... 012_451409 We all know where they usually turn for immediate revenue!

"Speaking in Brussels following a meeting of eurozone finance chiefs..." We also know how often Greek government ministers have mouthed what they thing the EU leaders want to hear ................ and then done βθγγερ all.

Fingers crossed and hope it's more of the same.

βθγγερ

This is a nice word. I'm glad I'm not the only one given to bashing the theta key when I mean to hit upsilon....

Ah, Clio, the intention was that you should hit those precise keys when typing in English, otherwise you get "bygger", which makes no sense.

Well not a new tax but they are reverting to collecting the emergency property tax through the electricity bills again, see http://www.ekathimerini.com/4dcgi/_w_ar ... 012_452050

Expect it on bills after the end of July.

I'm afraid I've rather lost track of how this tax collection is meant to work. I've recently returned from a trip to the island and, whilst there, picked up my latest electricity bill only to find that about two thirds of the tax they collected last year had been refunded without explanation.

Not complaining, obviously, but a total of approx 90 euros for a year doesn't sound right to me. Anyone else experienced this?

I had all my tax refunded on my latest electric bill.......I rather think though that I paid the tax too late for collection through my electric bill and will have to pay it again at the tax office.....

Yes, that makes sense Paula. There was a delay in collecting the money in my case as well - the direct debit was set up with a 100 euro limit on withdrawals which caused a problem.

Heigh-ho, look forward to several, many or more tax bills in the coming year!
