Jobs with tour operators

Postby lshall05 » Fri Oct 05, 2007 11:52 am

As most of you know, we're moving over in about 13 months (how time flies)!

I'm thinking about applying for an admin job (couldn't be a rep) with one of the tour operators.

As they are UK based companies, do they have to pay all their staff through the UK tax system or do they pay locals through IKA?

Hi Lynn,

It depends on the company. I know that one of the big ones pays all its staff via the UK, while I believe another of the large companies can pay locally and with IKA for some office staff. Some may offer a choice and others not. I know a number of people who work for small tour operators and have IKA paid, it all depends what they - and you - are willing to negotiate. Some people pay the IKA for themselves through the tour ops agents if the tour operator themselves won't do it.

Officially if they are a UK based company and you are hired as seasonal staff they can pay you via the UK payroll and do not have to pay IKA here.

Thanks Carol, I thought that was probably the case!

You couldn't PM the name of the company that you think does pay IKA?

I wouldn't mind being paid through the UK but it then causes problems for health care, signing on etc etc...
