Postby JulieC » Sat Oct 06, 2007 5:58 pm

Hi all

just trying to hire a car for a couple of months and unfortunatly getting silly prices - but maybe they are the norm for crete, i am not sure. Can anyone advise, price 1100 euro for an atos!!!

does anybody know somebody who rents cars we are in old malia.

or does anybody know who we could buy a second hand car from?

thanks julie

If you mean "a couple of months" literally, i.e. 62 days then 1,100 Euro works out at almost 18 Euro per day. That seems expensive for long term hire out of season. I would have thought you should be able to get nearer to 12 or 13 Euro per day, or even less if you are a very keen haggler. Sorry I can't suggest a specific hire company since we are a long way from Malia.

thanks for that, i thought about 12/ 13 euro a day would be about right, am def going to haggle tomorrow, a friend has just said they know someone who can do same car for 800 euro - if it was a better car i would say yes.

Think we are going to look at buying something - just a run around, will hire something just for couple of weeks whilst we do that.

thanks again

Hi JulieC
Try and address your mail to Babis. tell him I put you onto him, he MAY give you a good price
We have rented off him for the past 3 years and his prices seem to be quite good. We are getting an atos for 8 days for 105 euros.
Hope this helps

"Buying a little run-around"

Postby rainbowmir » Fri Oct 26, 2007 1:39 pm

Just a little word of warning - the car market in Crete is very different from that in the UK - please be aware that you are not likely to find a "cheap" runaround - 2nd hand cars are very expensive. :(

I've hired several cars in Crete from "reputable" companies. Every vehicle has been a heap of kopranon, having bald tyres, defective seat belts, defective locks or whatever. Take a good look when you hire one. Then hand the keys back and ask for a safe one.

Also check the spelling on the rental agreement just in case there is anything that might really upset you.
This Cretan Adventure thing is way beyond a joke.

Hi Eastern Babes,
I have rented cars from Kretancarhire for the last ten years and found them very good and reasonable. They are a reputable Cretan family. You may have to haggle a little and agree to pay cash. You can find the link through Pavlakis Beach Apartments. Bob

If the prices shown on their web site ( are are anything like the real price you'll need to haggle a lot. They're showing (2007 prices) €240/week for Group B Atos. In July friends of ours paid €150/week in Kalyves for a three months old Atos with a/c, full insurance etc.

PS Also assuming that's the right web site.
