Someone's checking your chickens - it's the taxman!

Postby TweetTweet » Sat Mar 16, 2013 6:59 pm

I heard this today from a Greek person - there is talk about an extra tax if you have more than ten chickens. Has anybody else heard about this?

(I suppose the logic would be that if you had more than ten chickens then you must be selling the eggs (so another type of "assumed" income).

Will there be paid "village spies" to count the chickens perhaps?

I'm sure there will be lots of chicken jokes about this but I'm not going to crack one :)

Well remember don't count your chickens until they've hatched.

Ha Ha :)

This was a serious enquiry on my part but no one else here seems to have heard anything about a proposed chicken tax!

Its Ok people making a yolk of this but we might have to shell out some day soon.
The hard boiled among us wont get in a flap however the IMF are scrambling for all the money they can get. When the chickens come home to roost we will pay.
I lay odds on it.

It's possible that the Greek person who told you about the tax on Chickens could be refering to the Greek Prophet.....Saint Cosmas

It's no 27 on the list......

I've actually heard my (Greek) mother-in-law mention this.

Could you provide an idiomatic tranlsation please... (someting like) Requested to Cypriot Governemtnof Greece..we have 30 chickens!" doesn't make a lot of sense (to me).

Thanks.

Wanted: (literally, "sought") Cypriot to govern Greece. We've got 300 chickens. (i.e.the lily-livered Greek MPs).
