Did the earth move for you this morning?

Postby johnincrete » Fri Aug 29, 2014 6:02 am

Many of you will have been in bed with your spouse at 6.45 this morning but I was at my desk as usual and so, the moving was an earthquake and not some special thing with your spouse.

In my basement where I work, there is just a small ground-level window and I could see a tree swaying but becoming still afterwards. I am blessed that I live in a modern, well-built building and so was not frightened by the quake. I do hope that no forum member or family or friends have been harmed.

Geologists have a ready answer as to what an earthquake is but, despite years of research and much financial investment, nobody can predict when an earthquake will happen. Could it be that God is warning us about something?

Highly improbable IMHO.

It was, however, not pleasant. Initial reports have it at M 5.8, with a M 4.8 aftershock. There are testimonies from a long way off the epicentre citing considerable and prolonged movement of buildings. The first report on EMSC had it at only 10km down, but they have since revised this to 80km.

Probably the worst one we've felt in nearly 10 years here.

Obviously, in the absence (hopefully) of physical damage, it's subjective. This morning's woke me from a deep sleep and the bed was moving considerably in a 2nd floor bedroom. For the October one, I was sat a desk in the ground floor dining room. The house shook, but the effect seemed less pronounced and perhaps of a shorter duration than today's. It's an opinion.

I was half asleep when the tremor shook me fully awake. My impression was that it was much shorter in duration to the October one.

Just down the road from Paul (and similarly not inclined to get in a state about tremors, having felt a lot...) I was scared. It felt very intense, and seemed to go on for ever.

I assume it woke my wife and me, although we were unaware of it. She asked me the time and it was 6:45am.

It woke me up. I heard god's warning and went back to sleep.

Felt the smallest of trembles that lasted, maybe, 10 seconds: a bit like a heavy lorry passing. Perhaps something preceded it that woke me but I was completely unaware.

Woke me up but movement very simple side to side swaying not like the complex waves and shakes in October. Heard a rumble as well. Much shorter and less severe than the October quake.

Kolimbari area just a little bed shake no noise, I suppose it is more pronounced in other areas, must be the nature of the beast.
