Silly Season in Greece.

Postby Brian » Mon Jul 13, 2015 10:24 pm

Enough of this cant. Greece had a deal two weeks ago a couple of hundred million euro separated the parties. In the middle of the negotiations Greece departs abruptly and calls a referendum. The government put forward the most obscure choice that has ever manage to make it on to a democratic ballot paper. Apparently! the people vote 61% against the proposals and this was received as a great victory for the greek people. Two weeks later this same government have accepted a revised proposal which in the event is a hell of a sight worse deal than was on the table two weeks ago. So everybody blames the bogey men in Brussels! for humiliating the greeks when in actual fact the greeks themselves were the authors of this incredible farago.
Another poster on this forum cites the case for a UK exit from the EU by comparing what is happening in Greece and what will happen in the UK.
This poster actually comes across as discerning and pragmatic normally but when it comes to having a crack at the big boys in Brussels all common sense and reason goes out the door. No more than Greece's exit the UK's exit would also be a disaster for the British people. I repeat a major blow for Europe but a disaster for Britain.

Brian,

This poster realises that the reason Greece was forced to accept a far worse deal this week is because the ECB in effect turned off the taps prior to the referendum and Herr Schauble actively mooted a five year Greek sabbatical from the EU which everyone knew would be permanent. Tsipras had told the Greek people a NO vote did not mean leaving the Euro or the EU.

Schauble was embarrassed (and insulted) by Varoufakis and no doubt had no reposte for his economic arguments.

Schauble wanted revenge and was not bothered one little bit if to get that he had to crush Greece in the process.

If this is the Europe you want to live in then vote YES in the 2017 referendum.

It's definitely not the Europe I want to live in.

I think that's the most childish comment I've ever seen on Living in Crete.

Listen to Yanis Varoufakis as he explains how the EU used banks rather than tanks to subjugate a sovereign country.
