That's a shame. There were some stores, like Public, that stayed open all day already. If you went down around 4pm on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday you could usually get parked very close to them, e.g. right outside, because all the other shops were shut. That benefit, for idle people like me, will now be lost.

My wife and I went to Chaina on Tuesday afternoon and 4 of the 5 shops we planned to go to were closed, still closing and opening again in the evening. Shop 5 was Kosovolous which has been open in the afternoon for years. Maybe it was the short notice given to them for the change.

Or the association agreed to the new hours but their members then ignored the agreement?

I can't think why they thought it would work. Most Greek people I know like to get up early and get on doing things. Not opening until 10 am seems crazy. Also, Most Greek people I know still practise siesta. They eat lunch quite late, e.g. starting around 2 pm and then go to bed for a couple of hours. They then get up and expect to be out and doing stuff again. Staying open when a large percentage of the population is in bed seems crazy. People, i.e. their customers, are not going to change their habits just because a shopkeeper decides to change his. It is too ingrained.
