Re: Useful Loophole?

The loophole he used was actually getting to Crete by some indirect route when they had still not allowed direct flights. It wasnt actually about setting up his house for the summer rental. However, don't care what they they call this rule, it will be useful if people like myself want to get out the...

Re: Pay tax in U.K. or Crete?

Yes it seems to be, but i think your property income is still 15% maybe because they assume most people doing it will be living in Crete and not renting their property, im not sure. I am still thinking about it for when we retire.

Re: Pay tax in U.K. or Crete?

I did the maths when considering this. The greeks are offering a flat 7% tax rate so compare it with your income and tax brackets if in the Uk. It sounds good but if youre not earning that much you it isnt worth it because you dont get any allowance, currently 12,500k. Also they bung a big pool tax ...

Re: Residency and the 90 day rule

Thanks Warwick. I looked at the tax redidency and because there is no free allowance at the bottom and because of the annual pool tax it worked out it wasnt worth it unless you are bit wealthier. It maybe worth looking at this and at the biometric card again. Also might have a word with our accounta...

Re: Residency and the 90 day rule

Thanks Rick, yes that is probably what i will do. Its not as easy as "you can stay 6 months in a year'is it. I couldnt do say 'may and june' and then 'september and october' for instance as that would be 120 days in 180, even though i would be only staying 4 months in the country. Just an examp...

Re: Residency and the 90 day rule

Becoming a tax residence is not really an option , at least it didnt look right when i last looked at it and i was put off considering it. I dont want to commit to doing that and if applying for the biometric card means i have to do that plus definitely staying in Crete for longer than in the Uk tha...

Residency and the 90 day rule

Thinking about the future, we live in the uk at the moment and have a house in Crete. After retirement soon we would want to spend much more time in Crete but are presumably still bound by the 90/180 day rule. We have a beige (1st) permit. Will this rule change when we get the next one after 5 years...

Re: COVID-19 Vaccination

We do with viruses all the time. That IS normal, and this one wont go completely, like the flu. But the other viruses dont cause this worldwide problem and if everyone has vaccinations then i can certainly see a future where we can go where we want, see who we want, and be able to hug our relatives a...

Re: COVID-19 Vaccination

I am fairly open-minded when it comes to alternative theories and have often casted doubts on news reports and government rules and regulations . There are always some immoral people that make money out of awful situations. But this time whatever the causes, and mistakes, we are living now in such a...

Re: COVID-19 Vaccination

Months and months of lockdowns of one sort or another, livelihoods ruined and thousands still dying and we can finally see hope that this will come to an end, and people are now arguing over whether they should take the vaccine or not. Seriously, I can't believe it.

No, doesnt affect me, just wondered. And wondered if they had actually considered the lack of winter direct flights in their reasoning.
